A count has a population and a date
The 2024 PSA infographic counts names in registered births in 2024. It publishes ten boys’ names and ten girls’ names. This is not a count of everyone in the Philippines, a survey of favourites, or a prediction of the next year. We display the year beside every figure.
The spelling is part of the measurement
PSA explicitly says frequencies use exact matches. You cannot add a related spelling to a total without another dataset. Nathan and Nathaniel appear as separate entries. A name’s linguistic relatives belong in an etymology discussion; the published counts remain attached to their own spellings.
Not listed does not mean zero
A top-ten list cannot tell us the count or rank of every other name. We do not turn an absent entry into “rare,” assign a zero count, or draw an invented trend line. The infographic also gives previous-year ranks; we show rank change only, not a claimed change in birth counts.
