MEANING & HISTORY
What does Bart mean?
Bart is a familiar form of Bartholomew. The older Aramaic name is a patronymic meaning son of Talmay, independently checked in the medieval name dictionary.
The short form preserves that relationship rather than being a new word meaning son on its own. Bart can be used as a complete given name, so its presence in a record does not authorize replacing it with the longer base. The inherited patronymic also does not require a present bearer’s father to be named Talmay.
