MEANING & HISTORY
What does Benedicto mean?
Benedicto is the Spanish form of Latin Benedictus. Benedictus means blessed and is derived from a Latin verb for speaking well of or commending someone.
Saint Benedict’s influence and the repeated papal use of related forms gave the family a long Christian history. The Spanish ending preserves a developed personal-name form rather than a new root. Benito is a contracted relative, while Benedicto keeps more of the original Latin structure.
