MEANING & HISTORY
What does Carolina mean?
Carolina is a Latinate feminine form of Carolus. Carolus is the Latin form behind Charles, usually traced to Germanic Karl and a word for man, with an alternative army-element theory.
The feminine name has its own established history before or apart from places called Carolina. The American state names commemorate a Charles and do not supply the original meaning of the woman’s name. The direct formation is a feminine development of the Carolus family.
