MEANING & HISTORY
What does Elpidio mean?
Elpidio is a Spanish and Italian form of Latin Elpidius, from Greek Elpidios. The Greek name belongs to the elpis word family, hope.
Early Christian saints helped preserve it as a personal name. Hope is therefore a linguistic root gloss rather than a promise about a bearer’s future. The Romance ending adapts the Greek-Latin name without creating an additional meaning.
