MEANING & HISTORY
What does Gina mean?
Gina is a short form used with several names, including Georgina, Regina, Luigina, Virginia, and Eugenia. These longer names have different histories, so Gina does not universally mean queen merely because Regina does.
The Italian actress Gina Lollobrigida was born Luigina, illustrating a different route to the same short form. The ending makes a recognizable familiar name, and it can also be used independently without a longer form on official documents.
