MEANING & HISTORY
What does Goryo mean?
Goryo is explicitly documented as a clipping of Gregorio in both Tagalog and Cebuano. Gregorio continues the Greek Gregory family, associated with watchfulness.
The local shortened form and the older root are separate supported stages. Its ending should not be interpreted as a new Greek element. Goryo can also stand as the recorded name, so the historical relationship does not require a longer legal form.
