MEANING & HISTORY
What does Ione mean?
Ione is a Greek name connected with ion, violet. Greek mythology includes a sea nymph with this name.
Later English-language use may also have been encouraged by the geographical name Ionia, so a family’s immediate inspiration need not be the myth. Violet is the supported lexical connection, rather than a modern personality meaning attached to the spelling.
