MEANING & HISTORY
What does Isidore mean?
Isidore continues Greek Isidōros, combining the goddess-name Isis with dōron, gift. The name therefore originally means gift of Isis.
It later became established in Christian traditions through saints, including Isidore of Seville. That later religious history does not remove the older Greek compound, nor does the ancient goddess element establish the religion of any present bearer.
