MEANING & HISTORY
What does Joanne mean?
Joanne is a form of Joanna, transmitted through French and Latin from a feminine Hebrew name related to Yohanan. The conventional meaning is God is gracious.
Some modern uses also treat it as Jo joined with Anne, a separate immediate formation. The inherited Joanna route is well established and should not be replaced merely because the spelling permits a modern division.
