MEANING & HISTORY
What does June mean?
June is a calendar name taken from the English month. The month-name continues Latin Iunius, traditionally connected with the Roman goddess Juno.
A family may choose it for a June birth or simply for the season or sound, but none of those personal reasons changes the documented calendar source. June is not automatically a shortened form of Junior, and the goddess’s name should not be replaced with a guessed translation such as youthful maiden. The immediate naming step is straightforward: a month-name became a personal name.
