MEANING & HISTORY
What does Jupiter mean?
Jupiter is the Roman divine name also used for the planet and occasionally as a personal name. The Latin name continues an older compound associated with the shining sky and father, comparable to the ancient Indo-European sky-father tradition.
The planet supplies a distinct modern naming association. Neither the astronomical nor divine use gives the personal name a literal meaning of king or lucky.
