MEANING & HISTORY
What does Leonel mean?
Leonel is the Spanish and Portuguese form of Lionel. Lionel arose as a diminutive in the Leon or lion name tradition, using a smallness or affectionate ending.
The shorter interpretation is little lion. Leonel is not automatically a form of Leonidas, whose Greek suffix has a different formation. Each exact spelling reflects a documented name history.
