MEANING & HISTORY
What does Paz mean?
Paz means peace in Spanish and became a given name through the Marian title Our Lady of Peace. A separate Hebrew Paz means gold.
The two word-names share a Latin-letter spelling but have distinct linguistic histories. The Spanish devotional account is not evidence that the Hebrew word has a Marian origin. Identifying both meanings gives a precise choice of source language without combining them into an invented phrase such as golden peace.
