MEANING & HISTORY
What does Porfirio mean?
Porfirio comes through Latin Porphyrius from Greek Porphyrios. The Greek formation relates to porphyra, purple dye, and an adjective meaning purple-coloured.
Ancient purple had associations with high status, but royalty is an association rather than the literal personal-name meaning. Several early saints helped transmit the name into Christian and later Spanish naming.
