MEANING & HISTORY
What does Rico Salvador mean?
Rico Salvador combines the names Rico and Salvador. Rico is a short form used with Ricardo, Enrico and other names ending in -rico. The Spanish adjective rico, rich, is a separate possible word association.
Naming the documented longer forms gives a more useful account than a blanket wealth-related translation. Rico may also be used on its own, without another longer name appearing on a person’s documents. Salvador is a Spanish and Portuguese name formed from the word for saviour, ultimately Latin salvator.
Its traditional Christian use refers to Jesus as the Saviour. Place names such as San Salvador belong to the same religious vocabulary but do not make every personal name a geographical transfer. Salvador and Italian Salvatore preserve related forms of the Latin source.
