MEANING & HISTORY
What does Sammy mean?
Sammy is a familiar form shared by Samuel, Samson, and Samantha. Those bases do not all have one complete meaning: Samson has a sun-related Hebrew root, while Samuel has its own Hebrew religious-name history and Samantha is a later formation.
The short form therefore identifies a pattern of affectionate naming rather than one universal ancient compound. Sammy can also stand independently in official use, with no longer name implied by the spelling alone.
