MEANING & HISTORY
What does Virgie mean?
Virgie is a diminutive of Virginia. Virginia is the feminine form of the Roman family name Verginius or Virginius, whose earliest meaning is not securely established.
It has long been associated with Latin virgo, maiden or virgin, but association is not proof of the family name’s original derivation. Virgie therefore has a clear immediate base even though the remote root remains debated. The familiar form does not state a bearer’s sexual history, marital status, or personal character.
