MEANING & HISTORY
What does Yan mean?
Yan has independent histories. In Belarusian it is a form of the John family, ultimately God is gracious.
In Chinese romanization, Yan can represent several characters with different tones and meanings, including characters associated with beauty, a swallow or rock. The Latin letters cannot establish which character is intended. A Philippine record containing Yan alone therefore does not justify one universal Chinese meaning.
