Origin and formation

The Philippine Binay family of Jejomar Binay traces its paternal surname to Diego Binay of Batangas. Jejomar’s mother was Lourdes Cabauatan of Isabela, accounting for the Cabauatan that precedes Binay in his full name. The surname continued in the next generation through his children, including Nancy, Abigail and Jejomar Erwin Binay. His wife Elenita, born Sombillo, also used Binay as her married surname. Jejomar grew up in Makati and Pasay, later serving as mayor of Makati and vice president of the Philippines.
