Origin and formation
Geronimo comes from the Spanish personal name Gerónimo, which was adopted as a surname. The name continues Greek Hieronymos through its Latin form Hieronymus; its Greek components refer to a sacred name. In Philippine spelling, the accent in Gerónimo is commonly omitted. Sarah Asher Tua Geronimo is a Philippine bearer who became known as a singer and actress. She won the television competition Star for a Night in 2003. Revolutionary general Licerio Gerónimo also bore the surname, retaining the accented Spanish spelling in his public name.
