Meaning and formation
Lacson is traditionally explained as Hokkien la̍k, “six”, with sun, “grandson”, written 六孫 or 六孙. Its Philippine form reflects Spanish spelling of those Hokkien syllables. The two Hokkien elements form the syllables written Lac and son in the Philippine surname. Philippine bearers include Panfilo Lacson, who headed the Philippine National Police before serving in the Senate, and Arsenio Lacson, a lawyer and journalist who became mayor of Manila. Arsenio held the mayoralty from 1952 until his death in 1962; Panfilo later entered national electoral politics.
