Origin and formation
Robredo is a Spanish surname associated with places called Robledo. Those place names come from robledo, “oak wood”, a formation based on roble, “oak”. The surname therefore has a place-based origin, with a tree word behind the place name. In the Philippines, Jesse Manalastas Robredo carried Robredo as his family surname and served as mayor of Naga and interior secretary. His wife, born Maria Leonor Gerona, adopted Robredo as her married surname and became known publicly as Leni Robredo, later serving as vice president.
