MEANING & HISTORY

What does Ariana mean?

Ariana is a simplified form related to Arianna, Ariane and the Greek name Ariadne. Ariadne is traditionally analyzed with an intensive first element and a Cretan Greek word for holy, producing the familiar most holy gloss.

Ariana’s resemblance to Adriana or Welsh arian, silver, has encouraged secondary associations, but these should not replace the Ariadne formation. The shorter spelling keeps the same name-family connection.
