MEANING & HISTORY

What does Braulio mean?

Braulio is an old Christian personal name preserved through Saint Braulio of Zaragoza, the seventh-century bishop and associate of Isidore of Seville. The Real Academia Galega records the name in Galician texts from the tenth century and regards its origin as disputed, possibly pre-Roman.

A Portuguese onomastic dictionary identifies the Late Latin form Braulio. This concrete historical ancestry is more defensible than selecting one of the contradictory popular sword or brightness translations.
