MEANING & HISTORY
What does Clyde mean?
Clyde is an English-language given name taken from the Scottish River Clyde. The river has an ancient Celtic name, but its precise literal interpretation is not securely settled.
The geographical adoption is the clearest formation. Tagalog and Cebuano records identify Clyde as borrowed from English. Similarity to Claudio can encourage playful local association, but it does not turn the Scottish river name into a form of the Latin Claudius.
