MEANING & HISTORY

What does Erika mean?

Erika is a feminine form of Eric or Erik, ultimately from Old Norse Eirikr. The usual analysis joins ever or always with ruler, although alternative explanations of the first element exist.

The name has also been associated with Erica, the botanical genus of heaths. That plant resemblance is an additional association, not a reason to erase the older Eric-name formation.
