MEANING & HISTORY
What does Lucia mean?
Lucia is the feminine form of the Roman praenomen Lucius. The name family is traditionally connected with Latin lux, light.
Saint Lucia of Syracuse helped preserve the name throughout Christian Europe, producing forms such as Lucy and Lucie. The exact Lucia spelling is a full inherited name, not a diminutive created from Lucy or an automatic statement about a bearer’s religion.

EnglishEtymology & source
Latinate variant of Lucy, or today borrowed from modern Italian. Name of a Sicilian martyr, Latin Lūcia, feminine form of the Roman praenomen Lūcius.
A female given name from Latin.
EnglishEtymology & source
From Middle English Lucy, from Old French Lucie (notably after the Christian martyr Lucia of Syracuse), from Latin Lucia (feminine of Lucius, a Roman praenomen), from lux (“light”). The name of the Australopithecus skeleton came from the Beatles song “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds”, which was being played repeatedly at the dig site camp at the time of the discovery. The slang term for LSD also derives from the song name, which many believe is essentially a reference to the drug.
A female given name from Latin.
