MEANING & HISTORY
What does Matt mean?
Matt is an English familiar form of Matthew. Matthew ultimately comes from Hebrew Mattityahu, conventionally gift of Yahweh or gift of God.
The clipped spelling keeps the opening of the longer personal name. It is unrelated to the ordinary English adjective matt, dull rather than glossy, in this naming route. Matt may also be officially registered independently.
