MEANING & HISTORY
What does Morris mean?
Morris is a medieval English form of Maurice, from Latin Mauritius and Maurus. The older Roman designation concerned a person from Mauretania or a Moor.
The geographical and ethnic term belongs to historical vocabulary and should not be used to infer a present-day bearer’s ancestry or skin colour. Morris also developed several surname histories.
