MEANING & HISTORY
What does Crispin mean?
Crispin comes from Latin Crispinus, a derivative of the Roman name Crispus, curly or curly-haired. It was borne by early Christian saints, including the Crispin remembered with Crispinian.
The hair description is the old name’s root and does not describe everyone called Crispin. A medieval explanatory tale involving pine is a separate later account, not required for the usual Latin derivation.
