MEANING & HISTORY
What does Emilia mean?
Emilia is the feminine counterpart of Latin Aemilius. The Roman family name is traditionally associated with aemulus, rival or emulating, though the oldest etymology is not entirely certain.
The family-name formation is secure. Emilia should not automatically be assigned the Germanic work meaning of Amelia, a different name with which it has often been confused.
