MEANING & HISTORY
What does Emiliano mean?
Emiliano is the Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese form of Roman Aemilianus. Aemilianus was derived from the family name Aemilius, also the source of Emil and Emilio.
The onomastic tradition connects Aemilius with Latin aemulus, rival, although the name’s Roman family history should remain visible instead of reducing every later form to one personality adjective. Saint Emiliano, also called Millán, is an important Spanish Christian association of this specific derivative.
