MEANING & HISTORY
What does Mariano mean?
Mariano continues Latin Marianus, a name formed from Marius with a relational ending. The deeper origin of Marius is debated, so male, sea and Mars should not be treated as interchangeable certain meanings.
Mariano also acquired Marian religious associations through its resemblance to words referring to Mary. That devotional association and the older Roman formation are distinct layers.
