MEANING & HISTORY
What does Urbano mean?
Urbano is an Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese form of Latin Urbanus. The Roman name means city dweller, from urbs, city.
Its landscape is urban rather than a separate Germanic bear-name, despite the opening letters. Urbanus occurs in early Christian naming, and later popes carried the corresponding Urban form. The final o belongs to Romance adaptation.
A present-day Urbano need not live in a city for that older geographical adjective to explain the name’s formation.
