MEANING & HISTORY
What does Guillermo mean?
Guillermo is the Spanish counterpart of William, transmitted through French Guillaume. The older Germanic compound joins will or desire with helmet.
Resolute protector is a common interpretive gloss; will and helmet give the closer literal elements. The protective association comes from the helmet image. Guillermo preserves the same ancestry despite its considerable spelling difference from William.
