MEANING & HISTORY
What does Melchor mean?
Melchor is the Spanish form of Melchior, a name traditionally assigned to one of the Magi. A proposed Hebrew analysis combines king with light, often rendered king of light.
The biblical text does not itself name the Magi, and the older formation is not completely certain. The Melchior name tradition is the firm account.
