MEANING & HISTORY
What does Virgilio mean?
Virgilio is the Italian and Spanish form of Virgil, continuing the Roman family name Vergilius. The poet Publius Vergilius Maro, author of the Aeneid, is the central classical association.
The ancient family name does not have a securely established literal translation. Calling Virgilio a descendant of Vergilius is therefore more accurate than deriving it from modern words for virginity or inventing a connection with a magical staff.
